As a VP of a relatively large developmental disability non-profit corporation ($16m budget, 500 employees) I am somewhat familiar with the business end of non-profit management. An MBA may provide one with the nuts and bolts of operations, but it cannot provide the heart and soul of the non-profit. Most of our management team members started as direct support workers and have learned the business from the ground up. We learn to care and serve and then learn the business. The two are bound together. Simply completing an MBA might be more viable in a profit-making corporation than in a non-profit. Make no doubt about it. We are a business and have to function as such. We have to make a "profit" in order to provide raises, health insurance and provice all the ancillary services required. But none of us miss the impact of the decisions we make that affect our employees (who are our greatest asset) and those we serve. My two cents.

Jeff
