It's pretty scary what people are willing to do to "improve" their looks when they don't really need it. Unlike burn victims, tumor patients and folks who really need reconstructive surgery, so many do it for the look. Just recently, in my locale,(a small town) a young woman died of a pulmony embolism secondary to an operation. She apparantly had just had liposuction. She recently had undergone breast reduction. While I recognize that breast reduction can be necessary because of back problems, etc., the lipo was probably not medically necessary (When is it?).
Judging from her pictures in tne newspaper, she was a beautiful girl who was heavy. She was moving up in her profession and well-liked by many who have expressed their grief publicly. Why did she (and so many others) feel it necessary and acceptable to take the risk that claimed her life?
Why can't we stop telling our young people (especially women) that surgery is routine? When is anasthetic, opening the body and taking or leaving material routine? I say almost never.
Unfortunately, like many other things, marketing rules.
