Dr. H I've been reading your posts since I heard you speak a year ago last August in Chicago. Not long after you spoke and after your book signing I passed you leaving the hotel...apparently for a walk...and wanted to stop you to ask if I might join your excurision, or to just speak for a moment. I felt we had a few things in common. I chose not to bother you much to my passing regret. To begin with, I live in Arizona and work in Sun City as a Realtor. My wife manages a large retirement community and together we also own and run a Homecare company. Also, coincidentally, we met while she was managing a large retirement community on the outskirts of Leisure World in S. California. My life is heavily involved and actually enriched with seniors in so many ways...and yet saddened so often too. I guess what this note is intended for is that so often, as I have spent so much time with our senior generation I have had to witness where so many are so alone in their final days. Familys that no longer feel the need to visit...("We know their well taken care of, we paid to make sure that they are in a wonderful place, and we will visit soon") But time goes by so quickly. A call, a visit often slip away until it's too late. And then words finally spoken go so sadly, for both, unheard. It has been wonderful to read your tales of the visits with your mother. To know how much it meant to you and her not to miss out on an opportunity to play cards (face to face) or just to have a chance to partake in another opportunity to hear her advice (?) ;>) or just to talk about the family she loved so much. You were there for her...and she knew it. God Bless you both...and all your family. And next time don't be surprised if a stranger asks to join you on your stroll.
