Dear Dr. Hammerschlag: I have followed your messages since I heard you speak at the OHA conference in Toronto last November and enjoy them immensely. Your Mom was obviously a very strong and influential woman, who loved you with all her heart. I have two children, one son 23 who has just finished his first year of med school in Ottawa, and continues to fluorish in the pursuit of his dream to heal and help. We have a similar relationship as you and your Mom did and I'm grateful everyday for that. My daughter is 19 and is pursuing a teaching career, and although those teen years between a Mom and a daughter seemed a little rockier than those with my son, our relationship since she's headed off to university has developed into an amazing friendship and for that I'm grateful, as well. I extend my condolences because I'm sure the loss is overwhelming, but it sounds like she will live forever in your hearts. My grandmother, who guided and supported us like your Mom did, lived to be almost 100 and there's not a day that goes by that I don't think of her. I live every day with the motto, "Make your Mother proud!" Ma would've been proud of your tribute to her, as I'm sure she always was, of you. Thank you for sharing the beautiful stories of her. I hope they continue. Sincerely, Elizabeth Bodnar Group Health Centre Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario
