Thank you Dr. H for your wonderful insight into the people that I work with everyday. People whose lives have been changed by Alzheimer's disease or another dementia. People who want so much to be accepted for who they are and not for others to judge them on what they cannot be anymore. It is not easy to see the landscape with new eyes, but when it can be done, what joy can be found... together. What joy can be found in appreciating what one has and not what one has lost. Your words, so eloquently put, bring together the very things that I try to encourage families to do. When they can see their loved one in a different and new way, they can begin to appreciate who they have become.
Thank you for your thoughts this week. They have brought new meaning to what I do and whom I work with each and every day.
