As a native Rhode Islander now living in Washington, DC, I am part of that Red Sox nation to which referred (I think it may be something in the water -- you can't escape it!) and very much appreciated your column today, especially knowing what a fan Grannie Annie was (is). I think being a fan of this team in particular teaches one about faith even in the hardest times and commitment -- you don't give up on relationships just because they are difficult at time.

Grannie Annie knew that, and I like the thought of her watching over our beloved Sox.
