It's always better to spend more time with someone before making job decisions - for both the candidate and the employer. Yes, it's true that a bad hire is very expensive. Still, we can't spend our entire time interviewing.

These tests help employers have an idea of what the person may be like; they aren't foolproof; rather, they are just another useful tool, and if used that way, constructive.

It's not much different than doctors who take blood pressure, PSA, cholesterol levels, etc. They aren't necessary dispositive, but give the doctor a better idea of what to expect, and aid in decision making.
