Talking Shorthand[ Follow Ups ] [ Post Followup ] [ Read More Messages in the Healing Cafe ] [ FAQ ] Posted by Anita Kilcran (12.40.9.177) on 12:08:26 01/11/04 Dr. Carl, thank you so much for this article! Too often I have heard people define themselves in the same way! Even worse, I've heard them define others according to the Myers Briggs or the DISC or by a number (she's a "7") or by whatever latest assessment tool or book is most popular. I myself have been similarly "defined." This has always disturbed me. I feel that I'm a very well-rounded person. I want to be viewed by who I am and what I do, not by what others think I am. If I appear to be an extrovert, it's because I am. I love people and and enjoy being around them. But I also love long quiet walks and week-ends all to myself. I have taken the Myers Briggs a number of times and have come out very differently depending upon what was happening in my life at the time. When I once shared that with a colleague, I was told that I was schizophrenic! My numbers are very close to the middle line. I call it "well-rounded!" To others I say, "Please don't relegate me to a labled box with four sides and a lid! I don't fit and it's just plain uncomfortable!
