Dear Dr. H.,

I wonder if my memory isn't working as well as it did once - or have I become more discerning. With the changes in life style and interests as the kids leave home, grandchildren enter our lives and we move from a full-time profession and start to follow our bliss, we put lots of information in closed files in our brain. With the right stimulus, can we tap into these closed files? I think so.

When I was in Spain and France a few years ago, vocabulary would pop into my mind from high school and college language classes. What a surprise! This sort of recall happens often enough that I have not started to worry about the dreaded Alzheimer's. . . even when I am trying to put faces to names on old Christmas card lists.
