I just read that Houston is building more roads, that 87% of cars on the road have only one car on the road. Looking at magazines dealing with cars, the main focus is on power rather than efficiency. Until the consumer is convinced (by the media?) that they want less traffic and can successfully do something about it by living near their job, school, until the consumer demands cars that are efficient rather than armored tanks or powerful speed machines, until we reinvest in mass transit and sell it to the public, until we decide to take a walk rather than drive to a health club to exercise (and take back the streets we're afraid to walk on), I sadly admit I'm discouraged. Instead it is our 'right' to drive big, powerful inefficient vehicles and live out live at the cost of the environment and the quality of life for our children and grandchildren.
