Couldn't agree more!!

I am a very healthy 40-year-old woman who is denied health care. I don't smoke, I don't drink, I have no history of high blood pressure or heart troubles, No major disease runs in my family. I'm not interested in getting pregnant so I'm not looking for maternity care. The only reason I'm denied coverage is because I weigh more than the medical charts allow. Weight alone is obviously not an indicator of my health or, at this age (since I've weighed more than the charts allow for most of my life) I'd be showing some signs. Still, a number on a scale keeps me from getting health care. If I worked for a company, I'd have to be covered, and I HAVE been covered by a company plan in the past and am certain I didn't have the medical bills that many of my skinny colleagues had. Now that I work for myself, I can be denied because of a number on a scale.

I'm not the only one who is denied health care for innane reasons. But, really, why should ANYONE be denied health care. Does it make any sense to deny preventative medicine someone who is more at risk for disease? Preventative medicine is less costly and has the likelihood of preventing limitless medical costs later on.

We are a sick nation when we care more about "spreading democracy" to all the world than we care about our own citizens' welfare. We need a change...a big change...NOW!
