You have identified the only positive to come out of this truly tragic case, the lesson to all of us to have the discussion now, and not trust that someone later-on will be able to "know" what it is we would have wanted. As for your praise of the hospice workers who deal with this on a daily level, please extend that to all health care workers. They all deal, on a daily basis, with issues that can drain the spirit as well as the body.
