I agree that girls compete differently than boys. I have just spent a weekend at my daughter's lacrosse tournament and observed the cooperative nature of their play. Another parent on the sidelines told me that , originally, ( male) Native Americans at times played a lacrosse game as a substitute for a war. Some of the players died in these games! I did not observe this spirit in the play of the high school girls I watched this weekend. I feel that girls tend to emphasize the process of the game rather than the result, although I think they like to win, too. I do not agree with Dr. Zelnick that girls "should" be taught to be more competitive, or more aggressive than nature made them. I see cooperation and competition as complementary approaches: don't we need both? I am happy to hear Dr. S. and KJ appreciating the wonder of this male-female difference. The possibility that female wisdom can be welcomed into ( and perhaps even enrich!) traditionally male venues gladdens my heart. Th
